Chapter 14: Ender's Teacher
1. What is the simulator? Track your answer; it will develop as you read on in this chapter.
How Ender described it, the simulator was the most perfect game he had ever played. The computer controlled the enemy and was devious and powerful, and whatever Ender tried a tactic he found the computer using it against him in minutes.
The game was a holographic display, and Ender's fighter was represented by a tiny light while the enemy was another light of a different color, and they danced and spun and maneuvered trough a cube of space. Later in the book they use the simulator to train against the buggers.
2. Who is Ender’s teacher? Why was he chosen? How does he explain the fact that he is still alive?
Mazer Rackham was Ender's teacher. He was chosen because he is to old to battle and he has experience with the buggers. He explains that he is alive because they kept him there for 20 years after the battle, and pretty much been keeping it a secret.
3. Why does Mazer Rackham say that "there is no teacher but the enemy"?
I think he told this to Ender to make Ender think that everyone is his enemy and he just wants Ender to learn that and keep it in his head.
4. Why does Mazer Rackham beat Ender physically? What lesson is he trying to teach?
He's trying to teach him that no matter who he's with to not underestimate his opponent just like he did to Mazer when he saw that he was old.
5. How did Mazer Rackham defeat the buggers in the Second Invasion?
He defeated the buggers in the Second Invasion by destroying the queen ship and letting every soldier die with her.
6. What, according to Mazer, are Ender’s advantages and disadvantages when he faces the bugger fleet?
According to Mazer, Ender's advantages and disadvantages when he faces the bugger fleet is that now they have more technology and know more about the buggers. But, the problem is that the buggers can communicate fast and that would be a real disadvantage.
